Mouth Ulcers, Dry Mouth, Lump In Throat, Painful While Swallowing. Any Ideas?
I have been sick once tonight, not been ill but had mouth ulcers and dry mouth for 2 days, after being sick tonight, I got a lump in my throat like a ball was stuck there. It is more painful on swallowing and more on left side of throughout. Moving to centre, when I swallow it is making me heave. Never had this before and I am quite worried, what can it be?
I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and i will try to help you out with your problem.
The lump which you have described can be any of the many benign and normal structures which are present in the oral cavity and the throat.
In any case these swellings may become or increased in size in any infection or irritation so you have nothing to worry about.
Since you have already taken a course of tablets for infections I would suggest you to take a course of anti reflux tablet such as pantoprazole and then see the change. If you have not taken an antibiotic then you may try amox-clav along with a multivitamin like zincovit in consultation with your doctor.
If the lump persists for more than a two weeks then you may take an upper GI endoscopy and get back to me with the reports
take care and get well soon
