There are few possibility apnoea or cyanotic spell and it usually starts at the age around 6 months.Though its a normal and self limiting .you should cosult with your PD.

If he catches for his breath like this only during crying then it can be a playful activity for him or maybe he is having enlarged adenoid glands. To be sure it is better to get him examined by a peadiatrician to rule out any other pathology.
