My 8 Month Old Baby Has Enlarged Spleen And Enlarged Liver

Was told 8 month old baby has enlarged spleen and enlarged liver . Blood tests and scan was done. Nothing significant in blood test and was told to come back after 3 weeks to see if the sizes has reduced. Is that not a too long time to wait? I don t have thalesemia but my grandfather was a carrier. My husband has not yet been tested.

Hello Zara;
welcome to HeathcareMagic
In children the enlarged liver and spleen can be due to many causes like:-
-infections like bacterial;or parasite
-glycogen storage and metabolic diseases;
-bile duct blockage
-cyctic fibrosis of lungs
-and benign which may reduce in few weeks
The reason the doctor has asked you to follow up is to see if the size is reduced in coming weeks.If the blood test are normal hopefully there is nothing serious and the enlargement may be benign so please consult your Paediatrician and get examined.
Thanks
