On Regular Treatment For Epilepsy. When Can This Be Stopped?

hi im saravanan from chennai india,

im 33 yrs old i had epilepsy when i was age of 8 yrs,i did not followed proper medication when i was in childhood after that i had some physcological issue when i was age of 19,for the last 10 yrs i unterstand about the dieases i take the tablets regulary,i have no physcological or seizure problem for the last 10 years,i have taken tegritol 200 mg,lonazep 1mg and firusium 5 mg and pan d daily.but my neurologisit still advice to take tablets,when i can stop all this medicine,please advice me.

Hi there saravanan ~

I understand your concern and having epilepsy for the amount of time that you do is not an easy thing. It has been controlled with medication recently and you have been seizure free for the last 10 years. I am glad to hear that. I would bring up the fact with your neurologist to have you tapered off of your medications one by one. The usual recommended seizure free time that this can be tried is about 3-5 years. I hope this helps.
