Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have this pain on the right side of my ribcage about 3 to 4 inches below the armpit. It started after I had this cough that lasted almost a month, sometimes the cough was worse that you might call it a cough attack (continuous cough) with deep breathing in between and feels like I am havin GERD at the same time. When it was getting better and coughing was no longer difficult, am now experiencing this pain on my right side of the ribcage below the armpit, like a dull pain. It gets worse when cough, breathe deep, get up or twist around in bed or put a pressure on it. And if I have to pinpoint the exact location, it s like in the 4th rib from the armpit if I put pressure on it. This has been constant for two weeks now.
Hello and welcome
I have read your query with diligence. There are few possibilities that can cause the pain:
1. Muscular spasm: due to prolonged coughing the muscular spasm is quite often. Try analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs with hot fermentation at the site.
2. Bronchial Pneumonia: The cough with expectorant when occur more than 2 weeks can cause a patch of pneumonia.
3. Infection in the lungs
Get your chest X-ray done any rule out any kind of infection in it. Consult your treating doctor for further management.
Best Wishes
