Pain While Urinating, Negative On UTI. On Medication For Yeast Infection. What Could Be Wrong ?

Hi, I am a 20 year old female and have been experiencing pain when I pee. I have pee very frequently and when I go to the bathroom and am almost finished peeing, I feel a lot of pressure and pain. I have had a yeast infection before and it does not feel like that burning sensation. I took a UTI test kit and it came back negative. I have had these symptoms for almost 2 months now. I went to the gyno last week and my doctor said I did, in fact, have a yeast infection and prescribed medication. It has been a week and my symptoms are the exact same, possibly a little worse, it varies on some days. So, I called my doctor and told them the medication did not work and they informed me that my pap smear came back low-grade abnormal. I told her the symptoms didn't go away and she prescribed medication for a UTI. WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH ME? Please help.

Hello ma'am.

In my opinion youe symptoms clearly match that of an infection. What kind of infection? Only a physical examination coupled with laboratory investigations can prove.

Please go ahead with a urine culture and sensitivity examination and a vaginal swab test which should provide more information on the infection. If you are not experiencing a response to the anti-fungal medication the reason is most probably:
-Not a yeast infection
-Dosage or administering technique not suitable. Which means only topical/local application might not suffice and you will need systemic medication as well.

Please also abstain fron all forms of sexual contact in the mean time if you are indeed sexually active.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
