Pregnant, Recurrent UTI. Taken Antibiotics. Test Shows Positive E.coli Infection. How To Cure?

doc my wife is pregnant and is having recurrent UTI since beginning of second trimester...all the urine cultures from past 3 months show Ecoli 10 raised to power 5. she took antibiotics and came sterile 2 timees but as when we stop taking antibiotics and get the urine culture done after 48-72 hours the test shows positive E coli infection again... i am not able to understand the possible format to cure the same issue..and have consulted many Gyne, Urologists and nephrologists

Hi
Thanks for your query. UTIs are more frequent in pregnancy. If your wife has repeated infections the appropriate treatment would be continue low dose antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy. An ultrasound of the kidneys might also be beneficial.
If infections continue post delivery further investigations may be done.
