Red, Warm Painful Spot Behind Calf. History Of MS And Neuropathy In Feet. Treatment Options?

Hi, I have a round redness swelled a bit warm to the touch and a deep painful and tightness feeling I saw my family Doctor he recommended I go get Ultrasound which I went and they could not find a blood clot. So I still have the red round swelled warm painful spot right leg back calf . Any other idea what it could be. Also, I was recently diagnosed with MS end of July 2012, oh and I have Neoropathy in my feet . Please help me.

Hi,

I am glad that your ultrasound of the leg is normal. It seems like it is a superficial skin rash or a dermatological condition manifesting as a erythematous rash. Even though, the ultrasound is normal the possibility of a superficial clot cannot be ruled out.

It could be the beginning stage of a trophic ulcer due to the Neuropathy in your feet.

The MS could be discharging small emboli as well.

My suggestions:

1. Make sure MS is managed best.

2. Continue the medications for Neuropathy.

3. Apply ice packs to the locally affected area.

4. Mild to moderate physical activity has proven beneficial. This should not be restricted.
