Sensation Of Urinating Constantly

Hi, my son is 11 yrs old in a few days and, off and on, for the last month or so has complained that he has a sensation of needing to urinate constantly even when his bladder is completely empty. He tends to get it after school in the early evening and he becomes hysterical but he flatly refuses to go to a doctor as he s too embarrassed to have anyone looking at his privates ! I know he doesn t drink enough and ocassionally he unwittingly releases the odd drop of urine but he s never wet the bed or had any urinary problems before and there s no sign of any inflammation . He occasionally gets sharp pains around his abdomen or kidney area - should I be insisting that he sees a doctor no matter how distraught he gets? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this - he actually feels as though he s constantly wetting himself although he isn t?

Nephrologist 's  Response
He needs to see a doctor urgently. He may be suffering from urinary tract infection. Also structural and functional abnormalities of the urinary system need to be evaluated. Exposing his private parts may not be necessary. You should not delay!
