Severe Pain In Left Thigh, Swelling In Outer Thigh And Inner Knee. X-ray Clear. History Of Having Sciatica In Right Side. No Nerve Pain. Suggest

I woke up the other morning with severe pain in the outer aspect of my left thigh, just down from the hip joint itself. I was unable to bear weight without significant increase in pain. Felt like I had a broken femur, which x ray shows no fractures. I have a history of fibromyalgia, no injury to site at all. The pain went across my leg to the inner aspect of my left knee. Localized swelling at outer thigh and inner knee, no heat/redness, positive pedal pulse. Still have pain but can now bear weight but partial weight bearing to left leg. Someone said it could be pinched femoral nerve - had sciatica in past in right side and this pain is so different. Does not feel like nerve pain this time. could you please help me.
Thank you
Mellony

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Mellony, thanks for calling, it appears to be the arthritis of the hip joint, causing the swelling of the surrounding tissues. I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. Other possibility is the filariasis.
I to my patient with such symptoms prescribe neurotropic injections, ofloxacin, anti inflamatories, and diethyl carbamazine citrate.
Thank you.
