Severe Vaginal Itching And Slight Bleeding At The End Of Treatment With Doxycycline For Chlamydia

After being diagnosed with chlamydia, I took the seven day treatment with doxycycline and just finished today, upon taking it I experienced severe vaginal itching and slight bleeding toward the end of the treatment. A few days ago I was also having problems with burning sensations while urinating and I was wondering if this was normal?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

It might be due to superinfection: Prolonged use of doxycycline may result in bacterial or fungal overgrowth and severe vaginal itching (particularly with fungal/Candidial vaginitis). You need a speculum examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas, Internal Medicine Specialist
