Shin Splints, Constant Pain, X-ray Normal What Could Be The Cause?
My 13 yr old hit his L lower leg 5 wks ago. It is swollen, still bruised, is very painful, the area around the knot is white and there is an indention in the knot. He has iced, elevated and taken Ibuprofen for 3 wks now. He plays baseball and has not been able to practice or play during the 3 wks. His pediatrician said it is shin splints, and his X-ray was normal. He is in constant pain. What can we do? What should we do? Should we take him to an orthopedic Dr? Please advise.
Hi, It seems that due to hitting of leg there might be having hematoma and it is likely that there might be having some infection at the site causing pain and swelling. He may require a course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicine course. Consult orthopedic surgeon and get examined. Ok and take care.
