Hello,

Difficulty in passing urine is commonly due to UTI, prolapsed bladder, Urologic diseases (kidney, ureters, bladder, urethra), kidney or bladder stones or interaction (or side effects) with certain medications.

Since you are having fluid & electrolyte disturbance that's causing fluid retention, sodium retention causing swelling you should inform your treating GP so that Prednisone can be tapered & stopped. You may need some other medicine for a replacement for it.

Bloating, swelling and rapid weight gain are side effects of Meloxicam, before stopping the medication get your GP informed. It can be due to thyroid dysfunction. You may need other medicine that suits you better.

Get physically examined, get Urinalysis, blood workouts & Imaging tests (bladder scan, cystoscopy, etc done to rule out UTI or other related diseases.

Swelling & water retention commonly occur due to kidney disease, developing symptoms of heart failure, sedentary lifestyle, lack of protein in the diet.

Restrict salt in the diet. You may need HRT. Beta blockers are also effective.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
