Should I Start Torleva For Suffering From Seizures?
Dear sir, I suffered meningitis at the age of 5. After few years I became epileptic. Presently I am taking Oleptaal 600 OD twice a day. I have suffered two seizures since August,2012. Now, my doctor has prescribed Tolreva XR 500 twice a day in addition to Oleptal 600 OD. Please comment should I start Torleva? Please comment.
Regarding your concern, I would explain that the frequency of seizures is really low. This means that the treatment with Oleptaal 600mg twice daily seems to be effective in the management of the seizures.
If your blood lab tests are normal and no complications related to Oleptaal intake have occurred, I would not recommend starting Tolreva XR, because it is not necessary.
Polytherapy (the concomitant use of tow or more antiepileptic drugs) should be made only if the seizures are not under control, which does not seem to be your case. It can lead to increased adverse effects.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards, Dr. Aida
