Should It Be Concerned When A Child Has Some Problem With The Knee And Avoids Walking?

My son is 4 and the past 2 days he has been grabbing at his right knee and crying that it hurts when he walks. Sometimes he walks fine and then all of a sudden he is trying to avoid putting weight on it and saying it hurts, asking me to carry him. He has not had any accidents or injury to it. Should I be concerned?

Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
The usual causes for sudden pain in knees in kids is growth induced pain
Bones elongate from their ends and that's how kids grow tall.
This process of elongation can cause pain which is normal . All it needs is some gentle massage and rest .
It can happen in vit d deficiency, low calcium levels which are next possibilities to consider if pain doesn't settle on it's own.
Wishing your kid great health
Regards
Dr Arun
