Slammed Locker On Finger. Turned Purple. Iced It. Was Numb. What To Do?

Hi, today I slammed my locker (accidentally of course) onto the middle finger of my left hand. It was slammed so hard to the point where it almost closed. It turned purple fairly quickly, and it was completely numb. I couldn't move it for about 10 minutes. That's when I started to ice it. It's kind of purple now. What could this be?

Hello,
The purple colour of the finger after the injury is due to localised bleeding under the skin, giving the appearance of purple colour.
Although the treatment for such an injury is regular icing for initial 72 hours and consumtion of oral ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day to take care of inflammation and pain, but a X - ray must be performed to rule out a fracture of the bone.
If the fracture is ruled out, then icing, ibuprofen and rest is the only treatment for it.
Such type of injuries tend to heal gradually in another appox. Two weeks time.
Thanks
