Small Child, Red Sores Behind Neck And Head, Swelling, Scabbing, Starting To Spread. Treatment?

Hi my daughter of nearly two years has developed red sores on the back of her neck and head. When I first noticed them it was just one little sore, it looked like a very red pimple . They are scabby and swollen although not all of them are like this. They are now starting to spread. I spoke to the daycare director and she told me that they looked like school sores.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
These skin lesions are looking like pyoderma as they are like red pimple, spreading and have scabs.
Antibacterial ointment like mupirocin to be applied over the skin lesions.
But the exact diagnosis is made by physical examination, so please send the photographs of the lesions or consult your Pediatrician for examination and appropriate treatment as some times oral systemic antibiotic may be required.
Hope I have answered your query.

Pediatrician Dr. Sudha Shree Venkataraman's  Response
Hi

From the description you have given it looks like your kid has Impetigo.

Its a bacterial infection that affects the skin, and can easily spread from one kid to another.

Please visit your Pediatrician- as she will need a good course of antibiotics both orally and ointments to be applied on the skin.
She might develop fever too- and will need medications like Acetaminophen- that will take care of her pain too.

Hope my answer helps you.
Wish your daughter a speedy recovery.
