Smoke Marijuana, Experience Extreme Paranoia And Hypochondria. Could It Have Any Effect On Health?

I am a 14 year old female, and I have been using marijuana for about a year frequently, on weekends usually and rarely ever during the week. I smoked marijuana last night for the last time, and as of now I am done smoking marijuana. I sometimes experience extreme paranoia and hypochondria. Do you think this one year of marijuana use could have any effect on my health? Please help!

Hello
Welcome to HCM

Marijuana consists of Cannabis as its main ingredient. Cannabis is known to induce psychosis in any susceptible individual. Cannabis induced Acute Psychosis is a common problem in many countries. After smoking weed/ marijuana you develop paranoid ideation and hypochondria. These are definitely due to Marijuana. I would advise you to stop smoking it as you may land up in acute Psychotic episode some time. Marijuana is very harmful to health please stop it.

Thanks

Psychiatrist Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Marijuana is a psychoactive substance, which by itself produces significant psychological effects by acting on the brain. Hence, marijuana abuse by itself has been associated with a variety of psychiatric disorders like anxiety, panic attacks, agitation, paranoia / psychosis, mood instability, etc.

So, it is quite likely that your psycholological problems are due to smoking marijuana. It's good that you have decided to stop this habit and I would strongly advise you to stay off this drug. If you are having any difficulty quitting, please don't hesitate to seek professional help.

Wish you all the best.
