Stopped Using Metformin. Taking Alprazolam, Bupropion For Depression. Any Chances Of Withdrawal Symptoms?
My doc has just stopped my metformin use ...I have been using it to treat Diabetes 2 for 7 years. My sugars are 120 and I have weaned myself from 3 pills to 1 pill a day over the last year. I suffer from depression, and am on a couple meds, one for anxiety, Alprazolam, and Bupropion.
What withdrawal symptoms might I experience? My back is bothering me now, becoming more intense pain.
Hello, Although the most common side effects of metformin are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, flatulence etc but in very few cases it can cause muscle pain and backache although medical literature doesn't support this idea. As far as depression is concerned,it can be caused by metformin not directly but indirectly by reducing the absorption of VIT B12 from gut and lack of VIT B 12 in itself can cause depression. I advise you to take VIT B 12 supplementation. If the sugar levels are high, then it must be controlled by proper anti diabetic medications, taking proper controlled diet and doing regular aerobic exercises for 45 minutes a day. Regular exercises also help in alleviating symptoms of depression by release of endomorphins in body which are feel good hormones. Thanks
