Suffering From Loose Motion. Will Welchol Help With My Bowel Problem?

I was prescribed welchol 625mg 2x a day. It was supposed to help my loose bowel problem, not quite diarrhea but close sometimes. I had been taking immodium 3 pills a day previously but dehydration was horrible. I am very surprised now to see what Welchol is actually for. I quit taking the Welchol after a week. Will it actually help me with my bowel problem or should I ask my Dr. for something else? My previous family Dr. retired last year.

Thanks for putting your qquery in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM)

Welchol is a bile acid sequestrant and contains Colesevelam, and diarrhoea is a coomon side effect of it. So if possible which you may discuss with your doctor to replace with some other lipid lowering agent which do not carry this diarrhoea. Keep your hydration level well and stop taking welchol.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
