Suffering With Impetigo On Eyelid, Swollen Ear Drums, Keep Recurring. Why ?
hi i a 32 yo female and have been suffering with impetigo on my eyelid since i was about 7 years old on and off. it only affects my eyelids every couple of years it does switch from eye to eye every few years. and if left untreated for a few weeks the side of my eardrum swells, my eyes usually is swollen shut and that side of my face swells. only goes away with antibiotics . But why does it recur every 3-4 years? As i said I first got it at age 7 in Puerto rico.
Impetigo is a bacterial infection affecting the skin & hair follicles & it does seem strange that you get it only on the eyelids. Could it be possible, it is a different clinical entity?
Dermatology is a very 'visual' field & as such, this rash needs to be viewed & it would be great if you could upload a clear digital photograph of the lesion onto this website using the upload data icon.
For the record a topical & systemic antibiotic should see you through this period. However, a local application of a 2% mupirocin ointment to the body openings..ext nares, anus & ears at night for a week & repeated each month for a week over a 3 mth period may just help take care of the resident bacterial overgrowth & help your case.
Here's wishing you a quick recovery & clear skin sooon. Cheers!
