Suggest Bruise And Pain On The Tibia

My 11 y.o. son tripped on the playground 1-2 weeks ago, and hit his tibia pretty hard. While the bruising is resolving with compression worn constantly, the lump remains. The bump is 3-4 cm diam, and 0.5 cm raised. Direct pressure to the bump elicits pain (6-7/10), but otherwise he is running around and usually forgets his leg hurts. Should I still take him in and get X-Rays?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to the injury. The bump is caused by local inflammation.

I suggest using cold compresses and a light bandage. I also suggest using Tylenol for the pain. In my opinion the X-ray is needed to exclude a fracture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
