Hai Doctor,My daughter is 9 yrs old and she has been under treatment for ADENOID for the last 8 months. Now,her doctor says that it it is better to be operated,is there any problems if not operated? Now she keeps her mouth open while sleeping that is the only difficulty with it now
The problem with enlarged adenoids wherein the child needs mouth breathing can be as follows: - Mouth breathing means chances of sleep apnoea which causes less oxygen supply to the body and brain in particular which can cause less development. This is slowly progressive hence not detected as early stage and can be a permanent damage. - High arch palate and forward inclination o teeth with changes in face that keeps away from keeping the person beautiful and daughter are and should be beautiful. Such changes when occur can be permanent and may need corrective surgery. - Eustachian tube dysfunction causing changes in middle ear and may cause deafness. - Hence if the medical management fails to cure adenoid enlargement it is best to go for surgery.
