Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi on behalf of my 87 yr old grandmother she has been ill for 5-6weeks now, lost a lots of weight, not eating very much. She has a really dry mouth with a terrible cough, her dr sent her for an xray and there is a shadow on her lung, in awaiting the appt for the CT scan she has had to be admitted to hospital 2 days ago and we are waiting the results from the CT scan she had yesterday, her ankles are also really swollen, what possible diagnosis would you give?
pneumonia has been ruled out - no fluctuation in temperature
Possible diagnoses might include heart failure, cancer, other types of lung disease, other cancers than the lung. It sounds like it might be a primary lung problem, since she has some abnormality on her xray. All her symptoms could be related to one thing such as lung cancer. I would be looking primarily at her heart and lungs as the source of her problems. More testing is necessary, and the CT scan hopefully will provide some answers. Once the diagnosis is specified then the correct treatment can be started. Hope this helps.
