You need to take plenty of liquids in the initial stages as typhoid weakens the intestines considerably making it difficult to digest food properly. Have you stopped medications after confirming from your treating doctor or on your own? Consult your doctor once before stopping medicines as typhoid needs to be completely cured otherwise it can recur. Remember that typhoid even when cured can recur if precautions are not taken. You need to maintain good personal hygiene and avoid outside food as food sold by vendors, street food, or food prepared by local eateries may not be prepared with utmost hygiene. So completely avoid such food and make sure food prepared at home is made hygienically. Practice good hygiene by washing hands with a soap frequently, before cooking, before eating and after using the toilet.

As far as diet is concerned you need to begin with liquids like glucose water, coconut water, barley water, fruit juices prepared hygienically at home, lemon water with added sugar or glucose. Avoid milk or milk based beverages till diarrhoea subsides. You can have buttermilk if you are not having any fever. Take these liquids about 200-250 ml at 2 hrs interval. Avoid too much gap as you will feel hungry and weak and gas formation is also likely to occur when nothing goes into the stomach for long. Once you are able to tolerate liquids well without any abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea, you can introduce semi solid foods which are simple and easily digestible like semolina pudding, porridges made of oats/oat bran, rice and pulses cooked well, khichri, sago pudding, boiled and mashed potatoes, bananas. Continue taking liquids alongwith semi solid foods. Have small frequent feedings to avoid taxing the weak digestive system. Avoid any oily, spicy, fried foods or raw foods for some time to allow complete recovery.
