Hi! Manasvee,
Considering your mother's advancing age and diabetes complication she has, her doctor is the best person to decide what should be the target blood glucose values for her. Since she is an elderly patient with heart complication, very strict or tight blood glucose control is not advisable as elderly patients have difficulty sensing hypoglycemia or low blood glucose due to cognitive impairment. Hypoglycemia must therefore be avoided as it can cause fall fractures in older patients.

Make sure she eats healthy and avoid too much restriction in her diet to prevent any deficiencies such as iron and calcium deficiency which is common in old age.
If there is no major dental problem, you can give her whole grain cereals like dalia, oats porridge, whole wheat chapati, rice in limited quantity, vegetables as raw salads, whole fruits like papaya, apples, guava, pears, plums and peaches.
Low fat milk and milk products (curd/paneer) can be given. If she has difficulty digesting milk, you can give soyamilk, curd or buttermilk instead.
Make sure she eats on time and avoid too much gap (not more than 3 hours) between meals. You can give sprouts (moong/chana) , roasted chana, puffed rice or rice flakes, fruit salad etc as snacks. Hope this answers your query and serves to guide you in managing diabetes effectively.
