Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m looking for a good natural replacement for myralax and suppositories in my babies diet as my son is currently on those as well as multiple other meds ( looking for natural substitutions for some)..... here s the problem.... my 3 Mon. Old son has severe here and GI problems, constipation, formula intolerance ect... currently taking hypoallergenic formula for severe food allergies and GI disorders. He has to have amino acid based formula that s predigested as he cannot digest milk protein on his own.... he rotates rice cereal and oatmeal in his bottles to help keep his formula down.... here s my question.... I ve been reading about bananas apples and especially avacados!! Would avacados be a good thing to add to his diet that will not irritate his reflux problems and help with digestion and constipation? I have read they re amino acid based predigested by the sun... 74% water and great for children with food allergies low acid content so should not upset the reflux and also loaded with calories (my Barbie already eats a 24 cal diet due to failure to thrive) any advice?
Yes. and several features. Miralax is neither the best nor the worst. It just runs through you. It may cause some bloating and discomfort but laxatives (gut stimulants) are very bad in that they can really shake the gut and you can get dependent on them for the gut to work at all. Increased non-digested food (we don't digest fiber, it goes right through) will work similarly to miralax and are just better for you. Fiber is in fruits and vegetables provided it is not filtered out. Clarified apple juice is filtered of fiber while bananas apples, avocados are not. Oatmeal probably has fiber and rice does not. Pure formulas do not necessarily have fiber.
