Suggest Period Of Sex Abstinence During Uterine Cauterization?

Hello, I am 47 yrs old, 5'7 140 lbs. and am in the middle of menopause, I'm not using any hormone replacement therapy. But I still get a period from time to time, the bleeding is heavier than when I was on the pill, and uncomfortable, bloating, cramps etc. My ob-gyn suggested Uterine Cauterization, im thinking about it but want to know how long would I have to abstain from sex after this procedure?

Hello and welcome,

I understand that you want to ask about endometrial ablation. In this procedure the endometrium is destroyed using heat or cold.

It then usually begins to slough off and so leads to a vaginal discharge. How long the discharge will last depends upon the extent of the procedure as well as the healing capacity of the tissue. An average duration is about 3 weeks. So we recommend absteinance for 1 month to avoid any infection. But it may vary if the discharge persists longer.

Hope this satisfies your query.
