Suggest Remedy For GERD

I am a 33 year old man who is healthy. I only battle GERD for which I take 2 15mg Prevacid q morning (have for years) and consistent sinus issues. I sat down at computer desk this morning and broke out in a major sweat, extremities cold, felt anxious. Laid down momentarily, felt better. Got back up, went back to computer, same symptoms but worse this time. Had to lay down around an hour to recover this time, with constant calming myself down. I have no nausea, no vomiting, no dizziness or lightheadedness. No other symptoms. I have had x 4 days minor lower abd cramping with mild diarrhea, albeit at the time of this episode that had improved somewhat. I have been under a great deal of stress lately. What could this be?

Hi! Good morning. i am Dr Shareef answering your query.

This could have been due to some kind of intestinal infection because of which you had diarrhea and the cramping in lower abdomen. Please get your stool tested for ova and cyst, and get the treatment if positive.

Regarding the GERD aspect the following might prove to be helpful:

1) Elevate the head end of the bed with two blocks on each side, so that the regurgitation does not occur while lying down, and the contents of esophagus and stomach flow down with gravity.
2) Some modification in your diet like more of roughage, enough liquids, avoidance of oily, fried, and fast food
3) Regular routine exercises like morning walk depending on your medical fitness.
4) Prescription for a prokinetic agent and a proton pump inhibitor/antacid which you are already on for symptomatic relief and to have a control on the acid production and facilitate movement of gastric contents downwards.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
