Suggest Remedy For Difficulty In Bowel Movements

Hello.I recently had my wisdom teeth removed, and was on constant vicodin. This has been giving me bowel movements large and very difficult to push out. I have not been eating normal due to the teeth, and I took a Dulcolax hoping that might help ease the bowel movement. I am just very nervous about it and am very uncomfortable. What should I do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The constipation is induced as side effect of vicodin.

Best steps to follow here
- discuss the alternative of viscodin as far as need of teeth procedure is concerned
- if the stool is having acute impaction (means no stool passage for last 72-96 hours), a judicious use of soap water enema at ER helps great for immediate relief
- later on use of bulk-forming laxative with plenty of liquids and high fiber diet support great.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
