I had a red oval spot (about the size of a silver dollar) on my left rib area for about 1.5 weeks. it did not itch, and was shiny like scar tissue. the discoloration is still there (though less intensely colored) but has been joined by red raised hives, which have been there now for about 2 weeks (on top of the initial spot, bringing total rash time to almost a month). most of the time none of it itches, but the hives are sore and I don t know what s causing them or how to make them go away. I haven t recently switched detergents, meds, etc, so I m very confused as to why the hives are lingering.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of urticaria, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colours for 2 months. 2. Apply a soothing lotion like Calamine lotion on affected region twice daily. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are an oral steroid, Hydroxyzine took only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
