Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have IBS , gastritis, and GERD. My IBS is chronic, have had this all my life. Also have diverculitis, constipation. I have been on Donnatal for quite a while, but no generic available. I do not take it one tab three times a day. I take it when needed. There is a program for people who need it but are low income through the PBM lab where i can get it free. Going to see my doctor in the morning. What should I tell him so he goes a long with this program? Nothing ever worked besides Donnatal. Is there anything?
Donnatal is a good treatment for IBS and stomach inflammation (gastritis). However, you mention you also suffer from diverticulitis, and since constipation is a common side effect of Donnatal, and since this symptom is an aggravating factor for diverticulitis, I wouldn't consider it the best alternative. I would mention this fact to your doctor as this would help them find the best possible treatment, without interacting or aggravating the other existing conditions.
