Suggest Treatment For A Bump On The Head After An Injury

I hit my head today on this table. Because I was leaning back in my chair in Biology because some of my friends were passing notes, and when I leaned back I lost balance with the chair and hit my head on the table and then fell underneath it and hit my head on the floor. I have a knot on my head and a bruise underneath my leg. Will I be okay?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The swelling or bump on your head is due to edema and small bleed in scalp layers. It usually resolves in 10-14 days.
You can apply ice packs, take anti-inflammatory drugs like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription. It will fasten recovery process. Avoid lying supine and pressure on swelling.

You must observe some alarming signs of head injury like vomiting, loss of consciousness, decreasing consciousness, bleed through nose/ear/throat, memory impairment, onset of new focal deficit. If you develop any of above signs, consult ER as soon as possible. Meanwhile you should not take any drugs which can cause sedation, turn head to side in case of vomiting, keep your head at higher level than chest.

The bruise on leg will also resolve similar to head swelling. But if you are having swelling at injury site, not able to move leg, severe pain not responding to drugs, then you must keep your leg immobilised, avoid weight bearing, consult orthopedician who might advise you X ray of leg to rule out any fracture.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
