Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Distension And Stomach Cramps

Hi, My mother is 79 yrs. old. She was just released from a hospital overnight stay, a couple of days ago for multiple symptoms; high blood pressure of 222/111, dizziness, nausea, stomach bloat with cramping, constipation, chills no fever. She had ex-rays & 2 - c-scans, and was given prescriptions for the blood pressure and for the bloat. Since being home her stomach swelling and cramping has gotten worse, she looks 8-9 months pregnant. Her appetite has lessened. Could this be more than just Colitis or IBS, what about Non-Hodgkin s Limphoma of the intestine region?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your Mother who is 79 and got discharged from the hospital and understood the concerns.
The cause of increasing bloating with pain in abdomen can be due to intestinal obstruction. I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Take her back to the hospital.
X-ray of abdomen in standing position can help to get a cause.
Tests of blood for Electrolytes in particular as low potassium can cause reduced intestinal movement leading to bloating.
Impacted fecoliths can cause bloating.
Cancer of colon can cause bloating that increases gradually.
Hence a proper re-evaluation can help a lot in proper diagnosis and thus a proper management.

Take care.
Regards.
Dr T Chandrakant.
