Suggest Treatment For Constipation That Develops After Hysterectomy

I had a complete hysterectomy about a year ago. Every since the surgery my bowel movements have not been the same. I don t feel constipated however some times the bowel movements are hard, but a lot of times they are fudge like and do not come out. I did see a doctor and she explained to me that since everything was gone from down there that the intestines just kinda hang out in that pocket and makes bowel movements hard to come out like before. There has to be something that can be done. Is the reason my bowel movements are more like fudge because I don t drink enough water???

Hi,

Constipation is common in people who do not have adequate diet rich in fiber. Having food rich in fiber, like green leafy vegetables and drinking more amount of water, yes, definitely drinking more water will help. It will reduce constipation and ease in passing stools.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Md Aamir Sohail, General Surgeon
