Suggest Treatment For Dairy Protein Intolerance In Babies
our 14 month old son has been diagnosed with dairy protein intolerance recently. He has a very bloated tummy, is constipated and seems to be in a lot of pain when he has a bowel movement. We have had him on soya only and a varied diet of fruit and veges etc.for over 4wks and there doesnt seem to be an improvement. He had a week when we first changed his diet where he had a 2-3 very loose movements a day and his tummy went down to a normal size, but its gone back up again. Its very upsetting and I am not sure what else to do. He is generally a happy little boy until he has a bowel movement. Your help is very much appreciated. thanks Jennifer
I am not aware the way the diagnosis of milk protein allergy was made. If it is a true milk protein allergy, we expect rapid clinical improvement after proper diet modification. But very rarely, children with milk protein allergy can have cross allergy with soy protein also- in such cases, we can try with a different specific formula feed(called protein hydrolysate), which is not easily available in some regions. If still not improving, definitely we will have to reconsider the diagnosis and workup to rule out other conditions- a pediatric gastro-enterologist will be the best option for that.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
