hello i have a family member who is 12 years old and has been diagnosed of epilepsy! he has been prescribed to take valparin 200. he gets 2-3 seizures of absence a day. he is getting poor at studies due to this.My question and concern is whether he will ever get normal like the rest of us and pursue his career? Is epilepsy treatable? if yes, kindly suggest alternative treatments please...i shall be highly obliged.
I read your question and I understand your concern.
At times absence seizures do improve with age, but whether this will be your case is not possible to predict exactly, time will tell. If he has other seizure types or brain lesions on MRI the chances are worse, while if his MRI is normal and he has no other types of seizures or other conditions there is hope. It is not a question of treatment though, the only available treatment is the one to control the seizures and for absence seizures Valparin is a very good choice, perhaps if not enough his dose may be increased.
I hope to have been of help.
