Suggest Treatment For External Hemorrhoids And Anal Fissure

My husband has had external hemorrhoids and possibly an anal fissure for last 7-8 months. These problems get aggravated because of constipation and physical strain. There are asymptomatic periods but after 4-5 days of which again pain starts. We have consulted many doctors and they have only advised to cure constipation by having fibre rich food and plenty fluids.
My husband has completely changed his lifestyle and eats fibre rich diet comprising salad, fruits and green vegetables. He takes flaxseed for added fibre supplement. He is totally off junk, fried food and even wheat flour. He drinks a lot of fluids too.
Despite all this he has constipation because of which his problem of anal fissure/hemorrhoids is not getting cured.
Are we doing something wrong? Is he sensitive to some food?Or is there some problem with water absorption?

Hi,

No you are doing perfectly alright. Best solution to chronic constipation is to take lots of fibers and fluids in your diet which you are already doing. I mean to say lots of fruits and vegetables. Other food items that have high fibre content are oats, whole wheat, ragi, barley, greens, beans, peas, lentils.

Among medicines you can take Lactifibre which is the combination of Lactitol and Isabghola, which are quite safe even for long term use. You may also add polyethyleneglycol which comes in sachet or syrup form. You have to titrate the dose according to the response and severity of constipation. Among ayurvedic medicine I prefer Cap Herbolax by Himalaya company. These capsule are to be taken 4 to 6 per day in two to three divided doses.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health.

Regards,
Dr. Amit Jain
