Suggest Treatment For High Fever In An Infant

My Baby boy - 6 months old - has fever for four days - kinda on / off pattern.. He is active and all that though.. He had a bad cold and throat infection and doc gave him MoxiKind (an antibiotic - Amoxillin).. It caused diarrhea and we were advised to stop Moxikind immediately by another doc. We stopped it.. Diarrhea went on for two days and now it has stopped... But still he has fever and makes a noise when breathing esp when he sleeps.... He has gone down in weight and looks thinner... We are putting him on basic paracetamol to bring down the fever but the effect does not last long.. What to do now?

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If he is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active. You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F. Hope my answer was helpful for you.
