Suggest Treatment For Loose Motions Due To IBS

Hi Doctor,

I have been suffering from severe loose motion for last 15 years. It is diagnosed as IBS- diarrhoea from last 2 years. And I am continuing with the medication for IBS, but no improvement yet. Everyday I have loose motion 8-10 times. Usually it happens in the morning very frequently.

The stool is watery with mucus. I have gastritis also.

Please guid me in this regard. Please suggest some medicine or specialist.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Rifaximin is an antibiotic medication for diarrhea with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It works by reducing or altering gut bacteria, and it can improve symptoms of bloating and diarrhea after a 10 to 14 day course of treatment. In addition, supplementation with probiotics would also help to keep the gut healthy. Along with it, anti-diarrhea medications like Loperamide may also help. Kindly consult your doctor before taking the medication for proper evaluation and management.

Hope the information provided helps.

Best wishes.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
