Dettol contains the chemical chlroxylenol. It should be used in diluted solution(5% solution); otherwise it can produce irritation of the anus mucosa and can cause injury to the mucosa. Further, local application can produce allergy. Too much application of the same can be absorbed through the blood vessels of the anal mucosa and can produce systemic toxicity. Hence it is better to avoid dettol for continous topical use. Your pain and itching in the anus may be due to fistula in ano or conditions such as pilonidal sinus. Hence kindly consult a gastro- enterological surgeon. In the mean time, for your intense itching you can take tablet desloratadine which produces very minimal sedation.
