Suggest Treatment For 'periventricular Leukomalacia' In A Child
My son has been diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia. The neurologist said 70% of the back of his brain is damaged. He is 23 months old and has not started walking yet. He gets seizures also. Also he has not started to speak yet. Pls tell me the treatment and effects of this on my son's life.
Hi...This is not something which is curable with drugs or surgery.
The problems he might have to face will be - 1. Global developmental delay. 2. Seizures. 3. Failing to thrive or under weight 4. Recurrent aspiration 5. Gastroesphageal reflux 6. Recurrent pneumonia
In future he might be required to under go a gastrostomy - if he is having any palatopharyngeal incompetence.
