Swelling, Hardness, Pain In Buttocks After Fall. Tried Hot Water Fomentation, Ointment
Hi,
i fell off a chair and landed on one butt a couple of weeks ago. It pained a little and eventually stopped. There was no bruising whatsoever. Now, that area has swollen, become hard, and pains a lot. I tried hot water fermentation and ointments, and the pain seems to have eased (but is still there). Should i consult a doctor, or hot water fermentation will take care of it? Kindly advice.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Based on the description, I suspect that you have suffered a SOFT TISSUE HEMATOMA which is causing you the symptoms.
The initial management of the Hematoma is as follows -
* Rest to the injured part and don’t involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications
If the symptoms are not resolving with the above measures, then an MRI scan may be needed to know any soft tissue pathology in the injured area.

From description , this hard swelling most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get fibrosed or calcified.
It will take few weeks to months to get disappear.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Meanwhile continue hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).

Hi, it appears to be the dislocation or a hair line fracture of the hip. I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have M.R.I.for diagnosis and treatment. Main thing of the treatment is the rest and immobilization of the part. Thank you.
