Swollen Painful Knee After Injury. Need To Get Checked Immediately?
Hi, I went to a skyrobics class on thursday (Sky zone indoor trampaline place) as I was jumping and came down my knee kind of "buckled" I was able to get back up after a min. I continue for a bit more then sat out then decided I had had enough. Now my lt knee is swollen and hurt. I have been wearing a brace and did ice yesterday. One problem is I am a nurse and worked yesterday & now here today. Should I get it checked out of rest it all day tomorrow??

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The swollen and painful knee that you have could be due to a soft tissue injury or a bone injury. In case there is no sharp pain on weight bearing then a bone injury is not likely. In case pain and swelling increases then get yourself evaluated.

Injury to muscle, ligament and/or joint capsule is common in such situation..
However, an X-ray is necessary to exclude fracture.
MRI will pin point the problem - should be done, if you don't improve..
You have not stated your age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
See an orthopaedician
Rest to the part (Splinting if necessary & avoiding weight bearing) is important
Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs like ibuprofen reduce pain & inflammation
Cold compress in first days / later warm compress - help
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
