Acute swollen and tender salivary glands is often caused by mumps virus and the disease commonly called mumps. It is often accompanied with fever. Most of the are benign and resolve on their own without any major complications. Treatment consist in relieving pains with acetaminophen, and staying hydrated by drinking much fluids. If it should persist beyond a week, then please seek medical treatment.
It can be transmitted to close contacts so avoid getting in contact with so many people until symptoms start to resolve. This will hep in protecting loved ones and the society.

Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. As you mentioned in your query , it seems that disorder is in right Parotid gland. May be calculus in Parotid gland as symptoms are those one would expect ---a painful swelling of the gland , especially at meal-time , as in your case. Sialography may find out the calculus is it is large & radio opaque. In my opinion consult a surgeon as physical examination will find out the cause. Good luck. Dr. HET
