Taking Lipitor For High Cholesterol. Have Back Pain, Hip Pain, Leg Tingling. Taken Cortisone
Hi I have been on lipitor since april and i feel awful. I was put on it because my overall cholesterol was 248 and my LDL was 168. Since being on it overall went to 173 and LDL to 93 until this past two weeks when LDL went to 102. I also noticed a spike in my glucose level which had always been between 82-90 and is now 108. I asked my cardioloigst and he said its not the Lipitor but my internist disagrees that there is a strong connection to Lipitor in women and diabetes. I have back pain, hip pain and tingling in both legs which is all worse at night. Can hardly get out of bed to walk in the morning which is shocking to me. I had a cortisone shot in my hip last week and am schedule for back MRI tomorrow but I think its the Lipitor In addition I feel fuzzy and taking a while to remember names. I am a 64 year old female. I want to get off the Lipitor but heard its dangerous to go cold turkey. What can I do to wean off of this drug that is making me sick. I heard CoQ 10 helps an I have been taking it with no lessening of the pain. In addition I am in the bathroom urinating all the time and sometimes dont even make it in. Am wearing a pad now.
Hello, Use of statins Like Lipitor is associated with myalgias but rarely does it proceed to be dangerous. Your symptoms of muscle pain could be because of other reasons also. What to do... Stop Lipitor immediately for three weeks and see the result. No harm in quitting it cold turkey. You may switch to other statin like pravastatin or fluvasatin. May take some different drug like EZETIMIBE. Carry on with your co- Q 10. Get your liver ezymes and muscle enzymes tested. Statins are definitely associated with worsening of blood sugar levels. Your symptoms could be because of uncontrolled diabetes. You must consult a diabetologist or an internal medicine specialist for proper examination and management. I assure you you can be managed easily.Get your VIT D and VIT B 12 levels also checked up.Thanks
