Taking Low Dose Birth Control Pill. Missed Periods. Close To Menopause?

I was on a low dose birth control pill for four years and in January my doctor took me off. From the blood work she said I am at 23 if 25 is menopause. I did not have a period until August. Very little and again in September. I am having a couple little breakthroughs in between this one. Is this normal close to menopause?

Hello
Thanks for your query.
Yes, menstrual irregularities are very common close to menopause.
What you are experiencing is quite common in this period.
To confirm, what you can do is have blood work done, and estimation of your hormonal levels - FSH, LH and serum estradiol as well as AMH.
That will establish menopausal or perimenopausal status firmly as a diagnosis.
Birth control pills or cyclical hormonal therapy during this period will regulate your periods for the time being.
Take care.
