USG Shows Intramural Fibroid. Abnormal Bleeding, Pelvic Pain. Need For Endometrial Biopsy?

Hi, I recently had a TV u/s (to look into excess fluid in my pelvis--however I have a VP shunt). The u/s showed an intramural fibroid 1.1cm (new finding). My gynecologist is having me repeat the u/s in 4 months to look at the fibroid again. I am just curious as to why this is necessary, since I had thought that fibroids are quite common & a benign condition (should've asked her, but didn't think of it until now).
She is also suggesting an endometrial biopsy due to abnormal bleeding & pelvic pain. My endometrium has always been thick (or borderline thick) in the past. This u/s reports that the lining is 1cm thick. So my 2nd question is: when is the best time during your cycle to get the best sampling for the endometrial biopsy? (I had one years ago which showed a "dyssynchronous endometrium". I was not taking any medications that would cause that, so that never really made sense. It was blamed on a possible pituitary issue due to my ICP/ shunt issues.) So I am just hoping to get a good sampling for this biopsy so I can feel confident that there is nothing to worry about with that.
(I am 43 & still having regular monthly periods.)
Thank you for your help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
You are 43 yrs old having regular periods. You are having a small intramural fibroma and suggested for a follow up study after 4 months. As per the Dr's instruction you may have to do the follow up study for fibroid (even though benign)
Endometrial biopsy is advised for the thickened endometrium.
The optimal period for endometrial biopsy is prior to your regular menstrual cycle - after completion of 3rd week on your menstrual cycle.
Best wishes
