Uterine Prolapse, Cystocele, UTI. Had Total Vaginal Hysterectomy. Will I Have A Difficult Recovery?

Hello, Donna Here. I had a total Vaginal hysterectomy 10 years ago for uterine prolapse, and cystocele one year later. I have a severe prolapse with incontinence and am scheduled for pelvic floor reconstruction in 2 weeks. I have had frequent UTI's this year. This surgery is being done by a urogynecologist. I go for pre op testing tomorrow. This time will be laparoscopic, robotic, through stomach. I am nervous, as I know the previous 2 surgeries did not help my main issue of prolapse, and worried about a more difficult recovery, being 10 years older and 58. I see the Dr. before the pre op. What questions should I ask?
Thank you

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
If you have persistent prolapse after two previous surgeries & it is bothering you much then you certainly need treatment. In your case abdominal approach may be better. This is good to know that you have been in touch of a urogynecologist. They are supposed to be the experts for dealing these complicated cases. Laparoscopic surgeries are generally considered to be associated with a quicker post- operative recovery.
I don't know the nature of your planned surgery. You should ask the doctor about the procedure, its success rates, his experience with similar surgeries, associated complications & there likelihood, operative time, post-op precautions & follow ups.
Wish you good health & best of luck.
