Was Suffering From Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Since 11 Years. Was Treated Now. Can Vitamin B12 Deficiency Be Tested In Teens Also?

Do American Doctors have any plans on testing for B12 Deficiency in teens, not just adult? I had to live with it since I was 12 years old and never knew. Finally got tested for it at 23 years old a year and a half ago and finally found out. I got rid of it and my Bi-Polar, and Anxiety Disorders I lived with as a young kid went away almost immediately.B12 if the most important vitamin in the body, please could you tell American Doctors to test for this in teens? Thank you.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

Thank you for your observation of having gotten rid of your Bipolar and anxiety disorder as soon as you found out about your B12 deficiency and got it fixed. I am glad you noticed that change. I looked up online as to whether there were studies correlating B12 deficiency to any changes in psychiatric disorders and I could not find any. However, your situation should also be assessed in terms of what medications you were on and how you thought that you got rid of your bipolar disorder. One thing about bipolar disorders is clear, and it is that once you are started on medication for the same, you start feeling better and you feel like you don't need the medication anymore. If that was the case, please consult your psychiatrist before going off of your medications.

I hope this helped. Take care.
